Taylor Joelle Designs Ruffle Onsie and Chevron Leg Warmers ~ Review and Giveaway ~

Everyone wants to look cute and fashionable... Okay so maybe that isn't exactly true. I, for one, am a confirmed jeans and t-shirt person.  Every once in a while I will decide that I want something more than a t-shirt, but it is still paired with jeans and either flip-flops or my tennis shoes.  Yep, I am a fashion disaster.  But, as the mother of 2 girls, I am a bit more picky about their fashion choices.  My oldest chooses her own clothes (well once I buy them and put them in her closet) and actually chooses her brother's clothes a lot of the time.  I, however, still get to play dress up with the youngest.  Let's face it, even fashion disasters such as myself like their little girls to look cute.

I was recently given the opportunity to review an ultra-cute outfit from Taylor Joelle Designs.  It is a simple ruffle onsie paired with coordinating baby legwarmers.  The Onsie features an a-symmetrical ruffle pattern at the neck while the leg warmers feature a coordinating pink and cream Chevron (zig zag) pattern. Both items are well made, high-quality textiles that will certainly hold up to the rough and tumble world of my newly-crawling and exploring 6 month old.  The leg warmers will help keep her tender knees protected on her explorations.

I love baby leg warmers.  As a cloth diapering momma, they afford me the opportunity show off her cute diapers while protecting her little legs.  But don't think you have to cloth diaper to love these baby leg warmers!

Be sure to check out Taylor Joelle Designs on the web for weekly hot buys and Facebook for great discounts.  You can also find them on Twitter, their blog, Google+, You Tube, and Pinterest

High Dive and other things the could have happened CD ~ Review ~

I don't know about you, but I am a terrible storyteller.  Yes, I can read a book with the appropriate emotions and animations, but I can't come up with a story off the "top-of-my-head" to save me life.  So I love CDs like High Dive and Other Things that Could have Happened.  This CD offers some fun, family friendly stories that are long enough to contain some good detail, but short enough to not lose little ones with short attention spans.

High Dive contains 3 stories The Title Track, about jumping off the roof of his friends house, Field Trip, about a just that a field trip to the State House, and Monster Valentine, about a Valentines day disaster.  Each is told with great skill by Bill Harley.  They are funny, light, and  great listen.

So who is Bill Harley?  He is a 2 time Grammy winning recording artist who uses his flair for humor and his innate story telling ability to entertain audiences world-wide.

Be sure to visit Bill Harley on his Website, Facebook, and You Tube.  And pick up your copy of High Dive & Other Things That Could Have Happened

Note: I won this CD through another blogger's Review and Giveaway of it.  I was asked to review it after I had already won.  All opinions are my own.

Mini Book of Grandwiches ~ Review and Giveaway ~

Tuckaroo - The Bib Reinvented ~ Review ~

I hate mess, but I never have the time to clean as much as I would like, so I prefer to avoid making messes whenever possible.  Some things are unavoidable, laundry, dishes, children, etc.  Speaking of children, one time when they are the messiest they will ever be is when they are eating, especially when they are first learning to eat.  I have lost many a shirt to irreparably stained collars; as I am sure  you have.  Enter the Tuckaroo.  The Tuckaroo is a bib with a unique feature, it both easily fastens around the neck to stay in place AND tucks into the collar to avoid messes there!

Baby girl just turned 6 months, so it was time to start solids.  Timing was perfect for me to test out this new bib (I have 2 others, so I know how things go with regular bibs).  I made up some brown rice cereal, sat her in her BeBe Pod, and put on the Tuckaroo.  She wasn't sure what to do with the bib or the food, so they met many many times (i.e. she made the obligatory mess).  But the result was no mess on her dress.

See no mess!  Of course she wasn't too happy with mommy for taking her food away from her.  My baby girl likes to eat.

About Tuckaroo:

The Tuckaroo is a innovative and unique invention that is going to sweep the baby industry. This homegrown idea solves the problem every mother faces...stained collars. The simple, but clever patented design was inspired from the traditional baby bib which is a classic but flawed design.  The Tuckaroo features an inner flap, known as the "Roo" (Tuck-a-Roo) that tucks inside baby's collar completely encasing it and protecting it from stains and wetness.

Foxgloves PDX Fingerless Gloves ~ Review and Giveaway ~

foxgloves |ˈfäksˌgləv|

noun
(1) fabulous fingerless gloves created in Portland, Oregon. (2) tall leafy Eurasian biennial with spectacular clusters of tubular pink-purple flowers.

I have never been accused of being a fashionista.  In fact, I am a jeans, t-shirts, and flip-flops kind of gal.  Yes, living in South East Texas, I can wear flip flops almost year-round.  But, as a knitter, I have been intrigued by the popularity of fingerless gloves.  They are fun and funky, with a bit of practicality thrown into the mix. I was recently given the opportunity to try Foxgloves fingerless gloves .

foxy |ˈfäksē|

adjective (foxier, foxiest)
informal sensually attractive; Dang, them Foxgloves is foxy!

I was selected to review the new Black and White stripped gloves from Foxgloves.  Black and White... the two most classic colors in any wardrobe.  Always in fashion, always "now".  Not to mention, the go with practically anything.  The gloves are well constructed out of a soft jersey knit fabric.  They are thumb style and elbow length.  The top is hem-less to enable you to adjust the length and style to your choosing.  My favorite part is that they are handmade in small batches and the fabrics are carefully selected for their style and substance.

Foxgloves  are available in elbow or wrist lengths, child or adult sizes, and in thumb or finger styles.  The finger style has a cutout for your middle finger; the thumb style has a cut out for your thumb.  They come in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

To find out more about foxgloves or purchase directly on the web, by email, or on facebook.

One lucky reader will get their very own pair of Foxgloves!  Enter below for your chance to win!

PottyCover - A Disposable Toilet Seat Cover For Kids ~ Review and Giveaway ~

It isn't a stretch to say that my least favorite part of being a parent is potty training.  I hate it... no let me rephrase that... I absolutely, without a doubt, DESPISE potty training.

One of the biggest sources of stress for me, when it comes to potty training, has always been public restrooms.  Well PottyCovers has something to help a little.  At least with the germy icky aspect of public toilets... Their covers are better than those flimsy pieces of papers you sometimes find in public restrooms (but more often find the empty containers for them instead).  They are light-weight enough to not add bulk to your diaper back, but sturdy enough to quickly apply to a potty before your toddler has an accident!  The fully cover the seat, the sides, and most of the front of the potty.  So whether your little one sits or stands, you won't be creating undue mess.

They come in a pleasing, gender-neutral dot pattern.  No Elmo, Dora, or Scary purple Dinosaurs here!

Buy them on Amazon: PottyCover - Disposable toilet seat covers. (6 individually packaged seat covers in each bag.)

PottyCovers is offering one of my readers their own package of PottyCovers!  Simply enter below.

Knot Genie ~ Review and Giveaway ~

I have insanely thick hair.  It isn't curly and think, or straight and thick, it is kind of wavy and thick.  My hair dresser started charging me for an adult cut when I was about 6 because of just how thick my hair was.  Even after 3 kids, I still have insanely thick hair.  Furthermore, it looks like my 4 year old has inherited by thick wavy, likes to tangle and not cooperate hair.  So of course, I jumped at the chance to try something that claimed to get rid of knots and complaining!  Enter the Knot Genie Detangling Brush.

So one night I handed the knot genie to my husband and told him to use it for my daughter's post-bath brush session.  He was impressed.  It ran through her hair very smoothly, much more so than the comb we usually have to use.  She did complain just a tad, but that is in her nature.  The next day I tried it on my insane hair and was happy with the results.

Product Description:
Magically gets rid of knots. Not to mention complaining.
The Knot Genie™ Detangling Brush was created for every mom that has endured the foot stomping and screaming matches that come with brushing their child's hair. With the Knot Genie, even the curliest, most knotted up hair practically slips through the unique bristle configuration – gently and painlessly. Try the Knot Genie on your kids (or on yourself) – you'll be amazed by the ease of brushing, as well as how it virtually stops breakage and split ends. You've wished for hair brushing standoffs to end. Wish granted.

Natural House ~ Review ~

I am always looking for good eco-friendly (and more importantly kid and family friendly) alternatives to the chemicals most people use to clean your house.  What intrigued me about the Natural House line is that they targeted problem areas often overlooked by many other companies - The trash can and the garbage disposal.

My husband was actually just talking the day before I received my trial products about needing to clean the kitchen trashcan... so when they came in I handed him the little bottle of Trashy and told him to get to it.  With a few sprays, some unpaper, and a little foam action, the kitchen trashcan is no longer harboring smelly bacteria.

The Sinky was even easier to use.  Just dropped one packet into the disposal side, ran a little hot water and watched the foam go to work.  The result? I clean smelling disposal!

Lastly I tried the Flushy.  With 2 kids potty training and 4 bathrooms in my house, I am CONSTANTLY looking for easy and fast ways to clean my toilets.  Natural House delivered you just drop the packet in the potty, let it foam then use your normal brush to scrub lightly and flush.  Viola a clean potty!

Natural House cleaners make use of eco- and person- friendly probiotics to clean rather than harsh and damaging chemicals.

I am not a scientist so I will let Natural House tell you how Probiotics work (directly from Natural house):
  • The surfaces in your house are like a garden. If you don’t seed with good plants, weeds will grow. You have the same choice with your household surfaces: sanitize for a moment with harsh chemicals leaving your surface open to recontamination or seed with probiotics to continuously weed out the bad micro-organisms.
  • Traditional cleaners “clean” a surface for a moment in time; the second the rag is finished wiping the surface, that surface is almost instantly polluted once again with ambient dust, dirt, and micro-organisms.
  • Natural House probiotics creates mini-ecosystem on a microbial level that produces enzymes which break down odors, dirt, fats, oil, grease, food scraps, waste and toilet paper products on a continuous basis between applications. This creates a natural, clean, balanced environment that is safe for even the most sensitive members of your natural house.
  • The action is in the foam!  When using your Natural House products be sure and let it foam first to release the cleaning agents before going to the next step on the package directions.
You can find more information on Natural House on Facebook and Twitter

La Bella Stella: Celebrating Earth Music Series ~ Review & Giveaway ~

Love at first listen!  That is the first thing that comes to mind as I sit to write this review.  Love at first listen.  I am not joking.  I am not exaggerating.  La Bella Stella: Celebrating Earth Music is an eclectic mix of favorites among the Children's Music genre singing about the earth, the sky, and the universe.  I like this CD for a number of reasons.  The CD features 15 tracks by 15 artists all with the same purpose... to make kids think!  My 4 year old love the music and lyrics, my 2 year old loves the music.  I love the message.

As a homeschooling mom, my lesson planning wheels were turning as I listened, from the first to the last track.  There is science in these songs!  The first track is a decidedly lyrical but rockin' track about the creatures and sounds we encounter in nature.  Track two switches gears to a much more bluesy feel in a discussion of night.  No two songs sound the same, and I love that.  Other tracks cover topics such as the stars, the galaxy, gravity, The Moon, The Aurora Boreallis, and many many more.  My favorite track is Pluto by Rocknoceros.  Pluto is closely followed by Shadow by Mary Kaye.

This CD is going into my homeschool box for sure, but you don't have to be a homeschooler to love it.

The CD is part of a series of Earth Friendly music produced by Recess Music.  It will be released on 27 March 2012 and will be available at most Music retailers including Amazon.com and iTunes as well as the Recess Music website.

MixBook Custom Thank You Cards ~ Review ~

Everyone likes to know they are appreciated.  Whether it is for a business transaction, a gift received, something they did, or just because, sending thank you cards can brighten the day of both the sender and the recipient.  What about when they are custom designed thank you cards?  That is even better.

With MixBook you can put your personal touch on a set of Thank you Cards.  I made a set for my business with my own logo design (which I created) on them.  I added the reflection effect using Mixbook's card designer on the website.  I like clean and simple, but you can make them look however you want.  Not creative?  You can choose from a multitude of ready-made designs that you can customize or purchase as is.

My set is 5x7on their premium paper and came in a set of 30 with envelopes.  They are well made and thick with no printing problems.   The turn around was very fast from order time to receipt.

Mixbook has more than just Thank You cards.  You can check out their websites for a myriad of different Photo Cards.  You can follow them on Facebook and Twitter as well for specials and news.

Barefoot Executive ~ Review ~

I have been a small business owner since 2008.  In that time, my business has amounted to little more than a hobby.  I incorporated for the liability protection offered since I was making children's clothing.  Beyond that, I have had no idea how to expand my business.  After reading The Barefoot Executive by Carrie Wilkerson, I know why... I was going about it all wrong!

In her "Ultimate Manual for Being Your Own Boss" Wilkerson walks you through the steps you need to take to achieve your dreams, if those dreams involve owning your own PROFITABLE business.  The book is not about her, it is about you, the independent business owner.  She gives you permission to take the plunge, to ignore the neigh-Sayers, to go for it!  I found the book very motivational and used many of the exercises throughout to determine where I wanted to take my business and the path I need to take to get there.

The author is very candid and very direct with her advice, and I respect her for that.  She is speaking from the heart and from experience.  She uses her experience and that of her clients to show you how to achieve your desired success.  The book is broken down into 5 main sections, each focusing on a different aspect of building your business.  Each section is complete with Action steps, exercises and case studies.
  • The Myth Breakers - This is where she gives you permission.
  • The Three Big Mistakes - The biggest roadblocks to success
  • The Methods - How do you go about achieving your dream?
  • The Models - How will you structure your business?
  • The Marketplace - Who are your clients? How will you get them? How do you keep them?
It is definitely a book that you will revisit time and again.  I read it cover to cover in a few settings, but it does not have to be read that way.  it can be used as a reference manual as you move, expand, and grow.  You will want a pen and paper handy for the exercises and for note taking (or you can do what I did and read it on the kindle and take your notes directly there).

Healthy to Go - All Natural, Organic Dietary Supplements ~Review~

As you know I am on a "health kick".  More accurately, I am trying to adjust and improve how I eat an how my family eats.  To this end, I carefully examine everything we consume.  When I was approached to test the dietary supplements from Healthy To Go, I was hesitant (yes, I always carefully consider what products I review here).  I am not a fan of supplements in general.  There are a few that I think are essential (a good Multi-vitamin and Omega-3 Oils), but in general most of them will mess with your body in ways you don't need.  But as I looked at the product offerings there were a few that intrigued me.  In the end I was sent 6 products to review:
  • Green Tea Energy Fusion
  • Acai Energy Boost
  • Trim Energy
  • Go Greens
  • Vitarocks (2 flavors)

I have been working with my husband to get him off Soda and heavily sugared teas and such.  It is working, slowly.  However, since he tends to be up late either working or helping with household chores (yes ladies you can be jealous, my wonderful husband does the dishes and helps clean) and gets up early to make is 1+ hour commute to and from work (it would be 45 minutes if it weren't for the houston traffic).  Since I gave up caffeine in 2003, I couldn't test the 3 energy products myself.  So he agreed.  He tried the Acai energy first.  Mix 1 packet with a bottle worth of water (about 16 ounces).  His assessment was that it had a pleasant taste and did provide energy without making him jittery.

I, personally,  tried the Vitarocks (Lemon flavor) and the Go Greens.  I am not a huge fan of the Flavor of the Go Greens as it is (I am not a huge fan of flavored beverages in general, though), but I thought it made a excellent addition to a smoothie.  Adding many vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidents.  The Vitarocks were interesting.  They are modeled after Pop-Rocks candy and they do a great job at that.  You can taste the vitamins and minerals over the sweetness of the "candy" but it isn't overpowering at all.  They would be great for older children (and husbands) who hate to take pills.

As of this writing neither of us have tried the Trim Energy product.

My favorite part of all theses supplements is that I can pronounce the ingredients and they come from natural sources.  Whole foods are still your best choice, but these are good in a pinch!

Here is the product information directly from the company:
VitaRocks

MemoryOnHand USB To Go ~ Review and Giveaway ~

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

USB memory sticks are a necessary part of life.  They easily allow for ease file transfer, extra measures of security, data backups, and so much more.  BUT none of that can be realized if you are constantly losing or looking for your USB key.  MemoryOnHand has come up with a solution.  A USB Memory key that you wear around your wrist!

The wrist portion is made from a silicone rubber composite and are 7.5" long to fit most wrists.  It was tight on my husband, but fit me fine.  They come in a variety of colors and patterns in either 2GB or 4GB capacities.   The silicone rubber does not render them waterproof, but does provide enough protection that you can safely wash your hands and go about your normal business while wearing it.  I received an Orange Marble one with a 2GB Capacity.

The History of the MOH:
The MoH Band was first conceived as a classroom project at Babson College in 2010. Andrew Kitzenberg, the founder of Memory on Hand, hadlost numerous flash drives during his time at Babson.  Regularly using them to backup papers and projects, there was usually a minor meltdown when one was lost. Realizing that many other students were having this same problem, Andrew conceived a new USB wristband that would be a fitting product solution. It was easy to keep track of and allowed him to always carry his important files on him. After playing around with the idea and testing designs Andrew saw the benefits of the MoH Band™ firsthand as he wore the initial prototype.  At semester's end Andrew had completed delivery on his first sale and decided to pursue the business after graduating. Since graduating in May of 2010, Andrew partnered up with friend and classmate Jeff Brayer and together they have brought the MoH Band to students all over the country.

The Incredible Shrinking Bully eBook ~ Review and Giveaway ~

As a parent one of my worst fears is that I can't be there all the time to protect my kids from the bullies that are, sadly, everywhere.  The Incredible Shrinking Bully by Mona Schmitt is an eBook designed to help equip your kids to deal with bullies.

The incredible Shrinking Bully follows Bart and his classmates as they are tormented, in turn, by Frank, the school bully.  Every time Frank bullies someone the recipient shrinks while Frank gets bigger and bigger. In the end, Bart stands up to Frank and is shortly joined by others in the class who have felt the wrath of Frank.  As more and more kids stand up to Frank, he quickly begins to shrink in their presence.

Obviously the size in this book is representative of the power held by the individuals in question.  The author includes 10 talking points at the end of the story to help guide your discussion.

Overall it is a well thought out book and illustrates the intended points well.  I am not a huge fan of the fact that at one point the protagonist considers hitting the bully, so that is something I will probably gloss over with my kids.

Robby Wash Ball ~ Review and Giveaway ~

When you are a family of 5 you do a LOT of laundry.  When you add in cloth diapers, wipes, un-paper, and other eco-friendly solutions to disposable alternatives, you do a TON of laundry.  Anything you can do to help save time, money, and detergent on your laundry is a good thing.  I was recently introduced to the Robby Wash Ball

I am fairly picky on my detergent, however.  My older kids both have bad eczema and I have a sensitivity to many detergents out there (including a few that claim to the "Free & Clear").  Also I have my youngest daughter's diapers to worry about.  I like having a "one size fits all" solution when it comes to laundry.  I don't like having to get special products for special items.

I received the "pink" ball which is designed for cold water washing (there is a "blue" ball available that is suitable for Hot and Cold) which is perfect because I wash everything on cold.  The box contains the ball (prefilled with detergent pellets), a stain stick, and 3 packages of pellet refills.  This  set is predicted to last an average of about 1 year.  With a retail value of $33 dollars, you can imagine the cost savings!

The ball itself is plastic with a foam ring to allow for quite use during the wash cycle.  I dropped it in with my laundry and just left it as I changed loads.  Everything came out just as clean as it did with my normal detergent (Tide Free).  Robby Wash Balls are hypoallergenic and have not evoked negative skin reactions in anyone in my family.

From the distributor:
Oransi – http://www.oransi.com - has launched in the U.S. an ultra high efficiency hypoallergenic laundry detergent ball called "Robby Wash" (retail price $32.95 each) with the following money-saving benefits:
- 10 ounces of Robby Wash ball replaces 75 lbs. of traditional laundry detergent - environmentally friendly.
- One Robby Wash ball lasts up to 12 months. The ball itself will last 3 years.
- One Robby Wash ball will save more than $100+ over 120 washes
- One Robby Wash ball is only $32.95 and lasts one year. This includes refills and free stain stick.
- It is eco-friendly, hypoallergenic and safe - commonly used in Europe with baby laundry (as well as adults' laundry).
- Third party tested, proven and guaranteed to clean better than traditional powder laundry detergent.
Detailed info on Robby Wash ball benefits can be found here:
Orsani has graciously offered one of my readers their very own year supply!

Mommy MD Guides ~ Review and Giveaway ~

As the mother of 3 I long ago stopped reading the books that "they" write.  My number one advice to first time parent's is "trust your instincts and stop listening to them".  I usually am met with questioning looks as they rush off to purchase the next "big" parenting book.  I tried.  Well since people are so keen to have others tell them what they are supposed to be doing, I was intrigued when I was approached to review an new pregnancy and parenting book series.   Honestly, I almost deleted the email because, as I said, I long ago stopped reading such books.  Something made me take a second look at the email, though.

I visited the company's website and was further intrigued.  I have said it before, but I am a semi-crunchy momma.  As such, of the the "main stream" ideals do not mesh with my beliefs.  What I love about the Mommy MD Guide Series by Rallie McAllister, MD, MPH, and Jennifer Bright Reich is that it shows there is no single "right" way to approach pregnancy and parenthood.

Each book is broken into stages, just as you would expect a pregnancy or parenting book to be.  Each stage is briefly introduced by the authors.  Then she goes on to include anecdotes from a variety of doctors.  But wait did I just say I was taking the advice of doctors?  Wouldn't that mean I might as well just as my Pediatrician?  Nope.  Anyone who has been in a group of pregnant women knows that advice will vary widely from doctor to doctor and from discipline to discipline.  The Mommy MD Guide series uses the stories and advice of about about 70 different doctors across all walks of life, all disciplines.  The only thing these doctors have in common is that they, too, are mothers.  Each section contains an assortment of stories directly from these doctors.  These stories serve to show that there is more than one way to do things.  More than one way to get it "right".

Right now there are 2 books in the series:  Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth and Mommy MD Guide to the First Year.  They are also hard at work on the third book in the series: Mommy MD Guide to the Toddler Years.

Buy it: Visit their Website  or Amazon: Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth and Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year.

Win it: Mommy MD guides has graciously offer 2 of my readers their very own copy of a Mommy MD Guide Book.  1 person will win the Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth and 1 person will win the Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year.
